Strength in the Hills

June 2009

A Northern Rangitikei property described as arguably one of the best in the district has sold.
“Dochroyle” has been in the Scott family since 1904 and is located 5 kilometres East of Taihape Township on Papakai Road.

Peter Stratton of Bayleys Taihape says that the farm attracted an unprecedented amount of interest, with 22 groups inspecting from Canterbury to Northland. The properties strong reputation also ensured a high level of local interest and was purchased by a local farming family after offers closed on 25th June. Mr Stratton says that five cash offers were received on the closing date with the winning offer being in excess of the current Government Valuation of $4.2 million.

Dochroyle comprises 572 hectares (1,414 aces) and features 254 hectares that has been systematically stumped, drained, re-grassed. Fenced into 40 main paddocks plus holding paddocks with good quality conventional fencing, and serviced by an extremely good network of tracks.
The easier contoured areas are in sheltered basins and dominated by Ohakune silt loam, a very popular and versatile soil suitable for root and green fodder cropping, and high producing pasture. This enables Dochroyle the flexibility to winter large numbers of cattle with many winter feeding options available.

Mr Stratton says that Dochroyle has a site near the top of the property that until recently was where a grand old homestead stood. This site offers panoramic views that include township, Ruahines plus sweeping Westerly vistas as does the backpacker’s accommodation which boasts an imposing view of Mount Ruapehu.
Facilities include two woolsheds, excellent cattle facilities and an airstrip with covered fertiliser bin, plus the full range of Implement and hay storage sheds.

Peter says that the sale follows the trend of all the good contoured properties Bayleys have sold in the area since Christmas, by making in excess of the Government Valuation.
