Tiriraukawa Ballot Farm on Market

October 2011

A 339 hectare (838 acre) farm that has been in the same family since Jack Maher won a ballot in 1949, is on the open market for the first time in 62 years.

“Mangaone” is named appropriately after the stream that runs through the property and also the junction between the Tiriraukawa Road to Taihape and the Watershed Road to Hunterville. It is also flanked by the clay section of Wairepu East Road that connects to Taihape via Kaweka Road and Mangaweka via Te Kapua Road.

The farm is being marketed by Bayleys with offers closing on the 1st December 2011. Agent Peter Stratton describes Mangaone as a genuine entry level farming opportunity.

Located on Wairepu East Road, the school bus to both Mataroa and Taihape is available 2.7 kilometres away at the Mangaone Junction. From there a tarseal road links the 25 kilometres to Taihape.

Mr Stratton says the farm has been fully developed, faithfully maintained and well farmed. The contour is mainly hill country with four paddocks cultivated, and is extremely well fenced with mainly conventional fences. Full farm access is available via a network of good solid tracks, and the clay roads.

Water has been taped from an excellent source high on the farm and piped to the woolshed and house.

He says the soils are dominated by Turakina Silt loam hill soils on jointed mudstone (Rubbly papa), one of few hill soils described as fertile, and combined with a sound fertiliser history, has resulted in very high P levels. This allows Mangaone to comfortably winter 3,000 stock units with most lambs fattened.

The recently painted homestead offers four large bedrooms and double garaging, plus a self contained two bedroom quarters. Add to this the four stand woolshed and large covered yard, and Mangaone is ready for any young family to walk in and farm.
